Top Ten (+3) Talking Points for One World Day
Use these talking points on radio shows, interviews, meetings, events, etc. If you want a representative of One World Day to speak, let us know.
- Cleveland Cultural Gardens. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Rain or shine. OWD has been the official event of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens since 1946, celebrating over 100 years of Peace Through Mutual Understanding. OWD is Historic, Continuous, Official, the one and only, imitated but never duplicated, Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation event. Last year about 40,000 people attended throughout the day.
- Visitors have the opportunity to visit (eat, drink, learn about, be entertained in, etc.) about 40 Gardens – not just a few gardens or a small area.
- The Parade of Flags will feature hundreds of people marching in traditional costumes of their heritage and carrying their flag. About 60 heritages are expected to march. The true Diversity of Cleveland on display. It’s like the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb will be marching up front. Reporters/anchors from the 4 main TV channels will serve as co-MCs. That’s the kind of respect and cooperation that One World Day generates.
- An inspiring and moving Naturalization Ceremony will welcome about 25 new citizens from all over the world as a federal judge swears them in at 11 AM at the Centennial Peace Plaza on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, across from St. Casimir’s Way.
- Passport to Peace. Attendees can get a free Passport which they take to any/all gardens and participate in a free, fun activity in that garden to get their Passport stamped. For kids and adults of all ages. Kids get a cool prize when they turn it
- America 250 – To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA there will be special displays and information. For example, did you know that Andy Warhol was Carpatho-Rusyn? Or that Walt Disney had German, Irish and English heritage?
- Variety of Ethnic food and drink. Gardens will have food from their culture or a food truck/vendor will be stationed there. This includes some new ethnic food options as well as ice cream and more traditional foods.
- Two Beer Gardens. Besides the popular Beer Garden in the German Garden on East Blvd. there will be another Beer Garden in the Irish Garden serving Irish favorites.
