For Immediate Release
August 15, 2024
Cleveland, OH –The 78th annual One World Day will be held on Sunday August 25, 2024 from 11 AM – 6PM throughout the Cultural Gardens on both East and MLK Boulevards. Since 1945 the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation (CCGF) has celebrated One World Day which exemplifies the theme of the Gardens: “Peace through Mutual Understanding.”
Almost 50,000 people attended the 2023 One World Day. With the streets closed to traffic, visitors can stroll, bike, scoot or ride the free shuttles throughout the 250 acre footprint and visit many of the 40 or so Gardens. They will experience diversity in people, heritages, entertainment and food under the watchful eyes of Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Copernicus, Bach, Confucius, Tesla, Dante and dozens of others all in one day.
Special attractions include a moving Naturalization Ceremony where people from 25 countries will become US citizens. Throughout the day there will be ethnic and cultural performances on the main stage at the Centennial Peace Plaza on MLK including a special performance from the US Navy Fleet Forces Band’s Brass Quintet at 5PM.
The Parade of Flags at noon will feature over 1,000 people from over 50 cultures marching with flags and traditional clothing of their heritage. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb will lead the Parade. In a demonstration of unity, MCs for the Parade include reporters from all 4 TV stations.
The popularity of the interactive Children’s Village (sponsored by the Cavs) has caused a move to a new larger location – on East Blvd. just north of the British Garden. Children Village activities include fun and games and giveaways with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Ideastream, Cleveland Public Library and Cleveland Browns. Kids can even try out a musical instrument from the Cleveland Orchestra Instrument Discovery.
The popular Passport to Peace activity lets visitors travel around the world at One World Day. Pick up a free Passport and then visit the gardens. Each garden will have a different activity. After completion of a small educational activity, like learning how to say hello in a foreign language, you will receive a stamp or sticker at each of the Gardens. See how many you can collect throughout your visit! Youth ages 16 and under can pick up a prize for completed passports.
Almost every garden will have activities, performances and food. Market Place shopping opportunities have expanded as have the number of food trucks. Adults can relax in one of the 3 Beer Gardens in the German, Serbian and Irish Gardens.
The event is free as is parking and the trams, shuttles and golf carts sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute. Detailed instructions on how to get to One World Day and where to park are on the website. There will be lots of volunteers and signs to assist.
